Combined Treatment of Tourette Syndrome with ∆9-THC and Dopamine Receptor Antagonists
نویسندگان
چکیده
Animal studies suggest that cannabinoid receptor agonists might enhance the effect of dopamine receptor antagonists (neuroleptics, NL) in hyperkinetic movement disorders. In Tourette syndrome, NL are the most effective drugs for the treatment of tics. Recent clinical trials demonstrated that delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (∆9-THC) also produces a tic-suppressing effect. In this single case study in a 24 years old female suffering from TS with extreme tics, it is suggested for the first time that ∆9-THC may be useful in augmenting the pharmacological response to atypical NL such as amisulpride and risperidone in TS patients. No serious adverse reactions occurred. Controlled studies are necessary to confirm this initial report. [Article copies available for a fee from The Haworth Document Delivery Service: 1-800-HAWORTH. Interactive Effects of Acute and Chronic Lithium with Dopamine Receptor Antagonists on Naloxone-Induced Jumping in Morphine-Dependent Mice
In the present study, interactive effects of D1 and D2 dopamine receptors antagonists and different periods of lithium pretreatment on morphine dependence in mice have been investigated. This study was designed to investigate whether the hypothesis that lithium and dopaminergic mechanisms via their effects on phosphoinositide pathways and calcium flux could influence morphine withdrawal respons...

متن کاملDopaminergic system does not play a major role in the precipitated cannabinoid withdrawal syndrome.
AIM To determine the dopaminergic system involvement in precipitated cannabinoid withdrawal syndrome. METHODS The dopamine D1 receptor antagonist SCH23390 or the dopamine D2 receptor antagonist sulpiride was administered to rats chronically treated with either delta 9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) or vehicle. Subjects were then injected with either SR141716A or vehicle and behavior was observed ...
متن کاملEFFECTS OF DOPAMINE RECEPTOR AGONISTS AND ANTAGONISTS ON BACLOFEN-INDUCED ANTINOCICEPTION IN FORM ALIN TEST
In this study, the influence of dopamine receptor agonists and antagonists on antinociception induced by bac10fen has been examined in the formalin test. The GABA-B agonist bac10fen induced antinociception in both phases of the formalin test in mice. The dopamine receptor agonists SKF 38393 and quinpirole also induced antinociception in both phases of the test. SKF 38393 but not quinpirole ...
متن کاملProgesterone receptor and dopamine receptors are required in Delta 9-tetrahydrocannabinol modulation of sexual receptivity in female rats.
Ovarian steroids, estrogen and progesterone, influence the sensitivity of certain neural processes to cannabinoid treatment by modulation of brain dopaminergic activity. We examined the effects of the active ingredient of cannabis, Delta(9)-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), on sexual behavior in female rats and its influence on steroid hormone receptors and neurotransmitters in the facilitation of se...
